Client & Brief

The client approached us with the ambition to create a bathroom that stood out as a true work of art. Their vision was to move away from neutral palettes and predictable finishes, and instead embrace bold luxury, dramatic colour, and textural richness.

They wanted the space to:

• Feel immersive and indulgent, similar to a boutique hotel suite.

• Showcase statement marble finishes in deep, rich hues.

• Incorporate modern fixtures and lighting without detracting from the strong architectural presence of the marble.

• Remain practical for everyday use, with easy-to-maintain surfaces and smart space planning.

Project Scope & Key Challenges

The bathroom had a compact footprint and needed to accommodate a bathtub-shower combination, a floating vanity, WC, and functional storage.

Key challenges included:

1. Balancing boldness with functionality – ensuring the deep crimson marble didn’t overwhelm the room or reduce the sense of space.

2. Working with existing plumbing positions – the design needed to be impactful while respecting budget-conscious decisions not to relocate major services.

3. Creating light and balance – introducing enough contrast and brightness so that the deep marble tones felt dramatic rather than oppressive.

Design Concept & Style

The design intent was to celebrate marble in its most striking form—turning natural stone into the defining character of the bathroom.

• Statement Walls & Surfaces: The crimson red marble with dramatic white veining was chosen as the hero finish, wrapping the shower, bath surround, and feature wall to create an uninterrupted, cohesive look.

• Contrasting Surfaces: To counterbalance the richness of the marble, a matte grey stone-effect wall was introduced. This created a grounding element that softened the overall palette while enhancing the bold red.

• Geometric Marble Tiling: The lower half of the vanity wall and flooring feature a contrasting patterned marble, introducing texture and rhythm without competing with the main stone.

Fixtures & Features

• Bathtub & Shower Combo: Integrated into the red marble-clad wall, the bath and shower form the centrepiece of the room. The use of brushed gold fixtures elevates the design, adding warmth against the cooler tones of the marble.

• Wall-Mounted WC & Vanity: Both designed with floating forms to give the illusion of more floor space, enhancing openness in the compact layout.

• Lighting:

  • A sculptural black-and-gold wall light above the vanity doubles as an art piece, creating visual intrigue and layering.

  • Recessed spotlights in the ceiling provide functional task lighting while maintaining a clean aesthetic.

• Mirror & Accessories: A slim, curved-edge vertical mirror adds elegance and elongates the wall visually, balancing the width of the room.

• Shower Screen: A black-framed glass partition introduces architectural definition and ensures a contemporary edge.

Colour Palette & Materiality

• Crimson Red Marble – bold, dramatic, and rich in veining, it’s the defining character of the bathroom.

• Patterned White & Burgundy Marble – adds geometric visual interest to the lower vanity wall and floor.

• Matte Grey Stone-Effect Surface – introduces calm and balance against the richness of the red marble.

• Brushed Gold Fixtures – taps, shower set, flush plate, and towel rail add cohesion and understated glamour.

• White Sanitary ware – crisp and clean to offset the intensity of the surrounding finishes.

Despite its compact size, the clever integration of floating fixtures, layered lighting, and contrasting textures ensures that the bathroom feels spacious and inviting. The marble’s deep crimson tones create a sense of drama, while the gold accents and neutral balancing surfaces add refinement and softness.
