Vibrant Mosaic – A Bold Small Bathroom Transformation

Client & Brief

This project began with a client who wanted to move away from neutral, minimalist bathrooms. Their vision was to create a space that celebrates colour, pattern, and individuality, while still being functional for daily living. The bathroom itself was compact, and the client wanted to maximise the available floor area without compromising on style.

They requested:

• A shower–bath combination for flexibility.

• Practical storage solutions in a small footprint.

• A design that feels inviting in the morning but calming in the evening.

• A feature wall or focal point that instantly gives the space personality.

Modern bathroom design featuring a harmonious blend of bold orange and mosaic tiles, complete with a fitted bathtub and contemporary black fixtures.

Project Scope & Key Challenges

The main challenge was balancing expressive design with limited space. In smaller bathrooms, strong colour or pattern can risk making the room feel cramped. Our approach was to layer contrasts strategically, ensuring the eye is drawn to intentional focal points while keeping circulation areas light and uncluttered.

Structural limitations included:

• A narrow floor plan that required careful placement of the bath, toilet, and vanity.

• The need to integrate a grid-style screen without blocking light.

• A request for high-impact finishes that remained budget-conscious and easy to maintain.

By zoning areas with colour and material choice, we successfully achieved a balance between bold personality and functional clarity.

Colour Scheme & Style

The chosen scheme embraced a modern eclectic style with Mediterranean undertones:

• Orange Feature Wall – injecting warmth, vibrancy, and instant visual impact.

• Mosaic Accent Tiles – a lively patchwork of colours that add depth, texture, and playfulness.

• Soft Pink Background Wall – providing subtle warmth and balance against the bold tones.

• Deep Navy Vanity Unit – grounding the scheme and creating contrast.

• Matte Black Fixtures – crisp, modern, and unifying elements that tie the design together.

This combination allowed for both expressive energy and visual harmony.

Finishes & Fixtures

• Vanity & Basin: A wall-hung navy vanity with black countertop, paired with a sculptural white vessel basin. The contrast draws focus to the wash zone while maximising storage below.

• Mirror & Lighting: An illuminated oval mirror framed the orange feature wall beautifully, providing ambient light as well as functionality.

• Bath & Shower: A built-in bath paired with a matte black rainfall shower system and grid bath screen. This ensured a modern architectural look while keeping the layout practical.

• Tiles & Flooring:

  • Mosaic tiling adds dynamic texture and makes the wash zone playful.

  • Large pale floor tiles reflect light and prevent the scheme from feeling heavy.

• Heating: A matte black towel radiator adds functionality and blends seamlessly into the overall aesthetic.

Design Features & Innovations

1. Focal Zoning – The orange wall with oval mirror creates a clear visual anchor, giving the bathroom personality without overwhelming the entire space.

2. Playful Patterning – Mosaic tiles frame the wash area, adding artistry and preventing monotony in a compact room.

3. Monochrome Balance – Black fittings and screen sharpen the overall look, grounding the bold use of colour.

4. Clever Storage – The vanity’s deep drawers provide much-needed organisation while maintaining a clean, minimal footprint.

5. Lighting Strategy – The illuminated mirror plus overhead lighting ensures functionality while softening the mood during evening use.

Outcome

The final design delivers exactly what the client envisioned: a compact bathroom full of character, vibrancy, and modern flair. Despite the small footprint, the space feels layered and dynamic thanks to bold colours, contrasting textures, and carefully chosen focal points.

This project demonstrates how playful, expressive design can thrive in small bathrooms when guided by smart zoning and balance. The client now enjoys a bathroom that doubles as both a functional everyday space and a unique design statement.
